PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Pirates broadcaster Bob Walk joined “The Fan Morning Show” in his regular weekly spot Wednesday to share his thoughts on the recent struggles of closer Mark Melancon.
Walk thinks that Melancon’s past success has earned him the benefit of the doubt, and that he should get another chance to prove that this is only a temporary funk.
“I think it is a little early,” Walk said. “I think Mark, he’s pitched so well for us in the past, there’s still a little time to get this worked out.”
Walk doesn’t see a reason to think that this should be a lasting rut for Melancon.
“As long as you’re not an older guy or you don’t have an injury going on – and neither one of those, I think, apply here – then I’d be surprised if the finish to his pitches doesn’t come back. As of now, it’s a short-term worry for me, because I don’t think there’s anything major wrong with him,” Walk said.
Walk can be heard Wednesdays shortly after 8:45 a.m. on “The Fan Morning Show.”
